Youth asleep in stolen ute

16 May 2019 6:32am

A teenager was arrested after being found asleep in a stolen ute at Mawson Lakes overnight.

Police patrolling the Mawson Lakes area about 4.45am on Thursday 16 May came across a stolen ute parked in Andros Street.  A male was asleep inside.

The patrol knocked on the window to wake up the driver, but he refused to get out of the car and attempted to drive off.

The tyres were spiked and the patrol smashed the window to remove the driver from the car.

The 16-year-old Pooraka boy was arrested and charged with illegal use and hinder police.  He was refused police bail and is expected to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court later today.

The blue Holden ute, which had been reported stolen from a Mawson Lakes home early on Wednesday morning, was towed from the scene.
