Mr Dennis Obst has tonight been named the 2017 recipient of the Lions Club of the City of Adelaide and South Australia Police Citizen’s Award.
The service of Mr Obst to Neighbourhood Watch was recognised at a formal gala dinner at the Thebarton Community Centre.
Mr Obst has served as President of the Neighbourhood Watch Volunteers Association of SA for the past five years and as a member of the Board of Management for nine years, in addition to his role as Area Coordinator for Felixstow.
The citation notes he has been integral to developing a formal Memorandum of Understanding between SAPOL and Neighbourhood Watch to ensure long-term collaboration, while also building links between police and the community at a local level.
Selection of a recipient for the Award is made from nominations submitted by police across South Australia in recognition of assistance that a member of the public has given to SAPOL in the performance of police duties during the past year.
The Lions Club of the City of Adelaide and South Australia Police Citizen’s Award was reinstated in 2003 after several years’ absence. Since then there have been 15 recipients of the award, with three being dual recipients.
Mr Obst will be presented with his award at a ceremony in November.
