Charges over stolen car at Pennington

07 Apr 2021 7:11pm

Police have charged two women after a stolen car was abandoned at Pennington this morning.

About 10.30am on Wednesday 7 April, police were alerted to a shop theft at West Lakes Shopping Centre where two female suspects were seen leaving in a black BMW sedan.

Checks on the car’s registration revealed that it was flagged as stolen, taken from a Pooraka home on Monday night.

Police patrols quickly attended the area and spotted the stolen BMW travelling north on Frederick Road towards old Port Road. The car was lost sight of shortly after and was last seen heading west on Old Port Road.

The stolen car was spotted again heading north on the Esplanade at Semaphore but was not pursued.

The Police helicopter (PolAir) took over observations of the vehicle as it travelled through back streets and into Port Adelaide.

Police set up road spikes and successfully spiked the car’s tyres on Commercial Road and Grand Junction Road.

It continued to travel east on Grand Junction Road before being abandoned on Edwin Avenue, Pennington. As the BMW was dumped, it rolled forward and collided with a parked car causing minor damage. There were no injuries.

Two women ran from the stolen BMW however police patrols quickly located the driver nearby.

Police and PolAir continued to search the area for the passenger and arrested her about an hour later on Grand Junction Road.

The alleged driver, a 26-year-old woman from Ingle Farm has been charged with drive motor vehicle without consent, unauthorized person drive motor vehicle and dangerous driving.

The alleged passenger, a 29-year-old woman from Kilburn has been charged with drive motor vehicle without consent and two counts of theft.

They will both appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on Thursday.
