Police from the Traffic Response Team spotted an unusual combination travelling in Penfield Gardens this afternoon.
Just before 5.30pm, Friday 14 April, police observed a car towing a large rain water tank along Robert Road. The vehicle towing the trailer appeared to have no view to its rear, was dangerously overloaded and not restrained correctly.
Police stopped the car and spoke to the driver, a 28-year-old man, checks revealed he had a disqualified licence and his car was unregistered.
Police will further allege an inspection of the trailer found it had no number plate, no indicators, brake lights or tail lights visible. There was also no safety chain securing the trailer to the car with only a strap holding the hitch to tow ball. One of the tyres on the trailer had blown and was on the rim.
The Elizabeth Park man was submitted to a drug test which returned a positive result for methamphetamine. His sample will be sent to Forensic Science SA for further testing. He was reported for several traffic offences including drive disqualified, unregistered, and manner dangerous and his car was impounded for 28 days. He will appear in court at a later date.
