Sturt Police Station, on Sturt Road at Bedford Park, will be closed until further notice due to cracking in the building.
The police station was evacuated on Tuesday night after patrols at the station heard a rumble and saw what appeared to be structural movement in the western end of the building.
No one was injured during the incident.
The Commissioner of Police, Grant Stevens, has visited the site today and has spoken with both engineers and staff.
As a result of expert advice, and in order to ensure the safety of staff and the public, the building will remain closed while the situation is fully assessed. That process may take several weeks.
To ensure ongoing front counter services for the public, opening hours at the nearby Netley Police Station (8.5km from Sturt) have been extended to 9am to 9pm, 7 days a week.
The public are also reminded that Christies Beach Police Station is open 24 hours, and Henley Beach Police Station is open 8am-11pm.
Patrols will continue to operate from neighbouring stations.
Anyone who requires police assistance should contact 131 444, or Triple Zero in an emergency.
