Update: Fatal crash at Elizabeth

A man has died after the car he was driving hit a tree and caught fire at Elizabeth overnight.

Just after 2am on Thursday 15 October, police patrols and paramedics were called to Main North Road, between Ifould Road and the Philip Highway, after a red Toyota Corolla travelling south, left the road and crashed into a tree, then bursting into flames.

The driver and only occupant of the vehicle, a 22-year-old man Felixstow died at the scene.

Main North Road was restricted for several hours  but was reopened to all traffic at around midday.

Major Crash investigators have attended and are examining the circumstances surrounding the crash, anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the red Toyotoa Corolla on Main North Road prior to the crash to please contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

The man's death bring the number of lives lost this year to 69 compared to 86 at the same time last year.
