SAPOL celebrates the graduation of 22 new Protective Security Officers

28 May 2021 2:01pm

Today will mark a significant milestone in the lives of 22 Protective Security Officers (PSO) who graduated today after successfully completing the 9 week Protective Security Officer Qualification Program (PSOQP) at the South Australia Police Academy.

The Protective Security Officers from Course 2 of 2021 will commence duties immediately in the Physical Security Section, COVID-19 Operations and the Security Control Centre.

One of those graduates is Rhys Darwin, who was a Team Support Officer at the Grenfell Street Police Station. He will be working at the Security Control Centre where he’ll be monitoring SA Government agency alarm systems, dispatching PSO patrols and monitoring the extensive CCTV systems. Rhys has enjoyed meeting new people on his course and at the Security Control Centre and is excited to see where his career goes.

Rebecca White has also enjoyed the team morale and has made lifelong friends whilst at the Police Academy. Coming from a sales background in animal nutrition, she’s learned to manage different scenarios and problem solve throughout the PSOQP. Rebecca will be working in COVID-19 Operations and is looking forward to this upcoming experience.

“It’s really rewarding to go into a field that is helping a pandemic and that I’m able to give back a little to the state that has done so well in controlling COVID-19,” Rebecca said.

Former private security officer Tom Birch will be heading to the Physical Security Section, where he will gain valuable experience working on mobile security patrols and at critical infrastructure/high risk static sites. Tom applied for the position as he has worked alongside many PSOs in his previous employment and wanted to enhance his security knowledge and experience. Tom has enjoyed applying his new skills, meeting and working alongside new and interesting people who have come from different walks of life.

Police Security Services Branch is proud of the graduates of Course 2 of 2021 and wish all 22 PSOs the best in their new work places.
