Marine search off Boatswain Point

27 Nov 2024 8:34am

Two men were pulled from the water near Boatswain Point, near Robe on the State's Limestone Coast yesterday afternoon.

The alarm was raised just before 2.30pm yesterday when two men did not return from checking craypots that morning.

A search was launched utilising SES volunteers, SAPOL's Water Operations Unit and PolAir.  A Challenger aircraft was deployed and local fishers in the area also assisted.

Just before 6pm, a member of the public spotted reflections from the men’s lifejackets about 200 metres from shore and brought them into the beach at Guichen Bay.

The men had spent about six to seven hours in the water after their boat sank.

The men were airlifted from the beach to awaiting ambulances to be taken to hospital for medical treatment after their ordeal.  Their conditions are not believed to be life-threatening.

Police thank all the local volunteers, fishers and members of the public who assisted in this incident.
