A man has died following a police shooting at Seaton this morning.
About 9am Saturday 25 May police received information of a man allegedly threatening self-harm in the Seaton area.
Police patrols were conducting a number of inquiries and an extensive search for the man was being conducted. About 9.45am a solo police officer stopped a vehicle on Green Avenue, near Alfred Avenue where they located the man inside with two women known to him.
As the officer approached to speak with the man, he got out of the front passenger seat allegedly armed with a knife and made threats towards him.
The police officer retreated and negotiated with the man to drop the knife however he refused and advanced towards him. The officer fired a single shot which hit the man in the chest.
Police immediately rendered first aid before the man was rushed to the Royal Adelaide Hospital in a critical condition. Sadly, the 20-year-old man from Munno Para West died as a result of his injuries.
No other person was injured.
The two women are assisting police with their inquiries.
Investigators from Major Crime, Western District CIB and Internal Investigation Section are at the scene conducting an investigation into the incident along with Crime Scene officers.
Police are receiving support from SAPOL Employee Assistance Section.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner. The matter has been declared a Commissioners Inquiry.
