Update: Man charged with attempted murder

12 Jul 2018 3:49pm

Police are searching for a knife after man was arrested for the attempted murder of a woman at Salisbury earlier this week.

The man was pulled over by police on Kings Road, Parafield Gardens about 8.30pm last night, Wednesday 11 July.

Further investigations led to the 25-year-old Salisbury East man being charged with attempted murder overnight.

Police and paramedics were called to the Parabanks Shopping Centre, John Street, Salisbury just after 8pm on Monday 9 July.

A 30-year-old woman, who is employed as a cleaner at the shopping centre, was assaulted by a man armed with a knife during a violent attack in the public toilets. She sustained serious injuries to her face and back and was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital by ambulance. Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The incident was declared a Major Crime by police yesterday, with detectives from Major Crime leading the investigation with the assistance of Northern District CIB.

Detective Inspector Billy Thompson from the Major Crime Investigation Section said, "The investigation is continuing, we are yet to recover the knife involved and so police are now undertaking comprehensive searches around the Parabanks Shopping Centre and other locations where it is possible the knife might be located."

"The knife is described as 30cm long with an orange or yellow handle. If a member of the public locates a knife in the Salisbury area, we urge them not to touch the knife, but to contact the police assistance line on 131 444, Thompson said."

We would like to thank the members of the public who called Crime Stoppers or who have provided other vital information which assisted police in this investigation.

The arrested man was further charged with drive disqualified and unregistered and carry offensive weapon.  He was refused police bail and will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court today.

Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at
