Man arrested for theft from Edwardstown home

13 May 2022 6:25am

A man was arrested after allegedly leaving his mobile phone near the scene of a crime at Edwardstown last night.

About 8pm on Thursday 12 May, a woman reported that someone had entered her house on Fuller Street, Edwardstown and stolen her handbag, containing car and house keys, mobile phone, ID and bankcards.  The opportunistic thief struck while the house was all open as the victim was in the process of moving out.  He was seen riding off on a bicycle.

Patrols attended and the victim showed them she had found two mobile phones, not belonging to her, on the footpath where she had seen the offender get on the bike.

The quick thinking patrol was able to use the phone to ascertain the suspect's identity.

Southern District CIB detectives attended a nearby Edwardstown address with a search warrant and arrested the suspect, a 30-year-old man.  He was charged with serious criminal trespass and theft.

He did not apply for bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court today.

Detectives recovered the woman's stolen handbag, and all its contents, and were able to return it to the victim.
