Update: Man arrested after crashing BMW

12 Jul 2019 4:00pm

A man was arrested after crashing a BMW into a Stobie pole and running away at Woodville West.

Just after 10pm on Thursday 11 July, police and emergency services were called to the intersection of Trimmer Parade and Cardiff Street after a black BMW sedan crashed into a Stobie pole. Other motorists stopped to assist the driver, but he ran from the scene. Members of the public chased the man and were able to provide information to the attending patrols.

Police cordoned the area, and with the assistance of Police Dog Marley, the man was located hiding under a car in Beatrice Street.

The 36-year-old from Royal Park was arrested and taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.  He remains in hospital, and has now been charged with failing to answer questions to identify the driver of the vehicle involved in a crash. He has been refused bail and will have a bedside hearing this afternoon.

The circumstances of the crash are still being investigated, and the man may face further charges at a later date.

Anyone who witnessed the crash who has not yet spoken to police is asked to provide their details via Crime Stoppers  on 1800 333 000 or online at
