Driver's car impounded for extreme speed

26 Nov 2021 6:39am

A driver lost his licence (again) and his car after being caught speeding at Regency Park overnight.

A patrol was doing speed detection duties on South Road, Regency Park about 2.30am on Friday 26 November when they detected a speeding Mercedes travelling south at 161 km/h in a 90 km/h zone.

The car continued at high speed along South Road and turned left onto Henley Beach Road.  Police eventually caught up with the car near the intersection of Glover Avenue and West Terrace.

Checks revealed the driver, a 19-year-old Adelaide man, was currently disqualified from driving.  He allegedly returned a positive road side alcohol test, but failed to comply with further breath analysis.

The young man was arrested and charged with driving at a speed dangerous to the public, driving while disqualified and failing to comply with breath analysis directions.

His vehicle was impounded for 28 days and he was issued with an additional 12 month instant loss of licence.

He was bailed to appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on 17 December.
