Two arrested near Iron Knob

Eyre and Western police patrols and PolAir have arrested a man and woman following a search in scrubland near Iron Knob this afternoon.

Just before 10.30am on Thursday 4 January, a man and woman allegedly crashed a stolen car at a station near Port Augusta.

The couple then allegedly stole a white Nissan 4wd from the same property and drove away.

Port Augusta and Whyalla police patrols were alerted who set up cordons on main roads leading between Port Augusta and Whyalla.

Several calls from the members of the public spotted the stolen Nissan leaving the Lincoln Highway heading towards Iron Knob then into scrub.

PolAir the Police helicopter was called in to assist in the search and quickly spotted the stolen Nissan on a dirt road about 4kms west of the highway.

Police patrols then converged on the area and both the man and woman were arrested without incident.

A 37-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman are currently being interviewed over charges including theft, illegal use and driving offences.
