Just after 6pm on Friday 16 December, police received reports of a suspicious Ford station wagon seen leaving a break-in at Penong.

Patrols spotted the car on the Eyre Highway as it was travelling towards Ceduna towing a large and heavily laden trailer.

The driver and his passenger were stopped and a search of the car revealed a significant amount of stolen property including a quantity alcohol.

The driver, a 38-year-old of no fixed address, was breath tested and returned an alleged blood alcohol reading of 0.139.

He was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated serious criminal trespass, two counts of theft, driving under the influence and exceeding the prescribed concentration of alcohol.  He was also issued with an immediate six month loss of licence and had his car impounded for 28 days.

His passenger, a 46-year-old from Armadale in Western Australia, was also arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated serious criminal trespass, theft and had an active warrant.

The pair have been refused bail and will appear in the Ceduna Magistrates Court on Monday.
