Adelaide motorists need to be aware of road closures and parking restrictions which progressively come into force from tomorrow (7 November) ahead of the annual Christmas Pageant.
This year the route of the National Pharmacies Christmas Pageant has changed through the central business district, so police recommend drivers pay close attention ahead of Saturday’s iconic event.
The first road closure is Reconciliation Plaza (Victoria Square/Tarntanyangga) between Grote and Wakefield streets from 9.30am tomorrow.
On Friday there are two additional closures - South Terrace lane closure between Symonds Place and Downer Place (3pm to 6pm) and Wakefield Street lane closure between Victoria Square and Gawler Place (from 4pm), however the bulk of the closures begin at 5am on Saturday.
Father Christmas and more than 88 colourful floats, bands and roving performers will roll through the streets from 9.30am, with the roads expected to re-open by 1pm.
The 86th annual pageant will end on King William Rd outside the City of Adelaide Town Hall about 11.30am.
Temporary parking controls will also be in place, so please check signs closely, and people are encouraged to use public transport.
Tram and bus services will be changed during the pageant, with services re-starting after the roads re-open.
Attendees are encouraged to plan ahead and motorists are asked to generally avoid the area, with east-west traffic urged to consider using Greenhill Road or travelling via North Adelaide.
