Police pioneer honoured with music

02 Jul 2020 4:45pm

On 8 April  last year, a decorated chapter in SAPOL’s history closed with the passing of pioneering policewoman Dorothy Pyatt OAM.

The 100-year-old was renowned for her dedicated service to the community – both as an officer and then as a volunteer.

A lover of music, Ms Pyatt bequeathed a sum of money to the Band of the South Australia Police. Recently, the band used the generous donation to purchase a beautiful Kawaii piano – the first brand new piano the band has ever owned.

Constable Melissa McCaig and Constable Peter Taylor from the Band of the South Australia Police pay tribute to Ms Pyatt through the performance of the timeless song, "Somewhere Over The Rainbow”. The performance is in memory of Ms Pyatt’s outstanding commitment to Policing and generous donation to the Band of the South Australia Police.

To learn more about Dorothy Pyatt’s life, read the back page of our Blueprint magazine, Issue 2 2019.
