Declaration of a Major Emergency - River Murray Flood Emergency

21 Nov 2022 4:50pm

Pursuant to Section 16 (1) of the Emergency Management Act 2004, on Monday 21 November 2022, the State Coordinator for the State of South Australia, Commissioner of Police Grant Stevens, declared the River Murray flooding a major emergency.

The Major Emergency relates to flooding within the River Murray region. It remained in force for an initial period of 14 days and on 5 December 2022 it was extended for a period of 45 days.

The declaration enables authorised officers to utilise a range of authorities not normally available to them and supports the high level of coordination that is already occurring between all emergency services and other agencies.
