During the Fire Danger Season it’s more important than ever to remain vigilant to potential fire risks. Using power tools like angle grinders, welders and cutting tools can create sparks which if you’re not careful can quickly start a bushfire, so Why Risk It?
Before you use any power tools this Fire Danger Season – whether out on a job site or doing some work around the house – make sure the area you’re working in is free of flammable materials for at least 4 metres around you, and make sure that you have water or an appropriate fire extinguisher on hand.
SA Police are re-releasing a video from their ‘Why Risk It?’ video series to drive home the message of safe power tool use. Check out the video here. There’s also a range of other useful bushfire prevention resources available on the SA Police website.
With warmer weather comes an increased risk of bushfires, so if you undertake any activity which may be a fire risk, please consider the weather conditions and check the restrictions around that activity beforehand by visiting the CFS website.
And remember, if you see any suspicious, reckless or negligent behaviour please report it to SA Police on 131 444. If you see an active fire, please call Triple Zero (000). And if you have any information about someone deliberately lighting fires call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report it online anonymously.
Why Risk It? Stay safe this Fire Danger Season.
