At midnight today Fire Danger Season will have finished in all Fire Districts across South Australia.
Although the weather is getting cooler, environmental conditions remain dry and there is still a risk of bushfire. If you are planning to take advantage of the end of the Fire Danger Season to clean up around your property please watch our ‘Why Risk It? Safe Garden Waste Burning’ video which includes helpful safety tips.
To prevent bushfires, it is really important that people continue to consider local restrictions, weather and environmental conditions prior to burning and vital that people ensure the fire is completely extinguished prior to leaving the site.
Also, a timely reminder that deliberately or recklessly causing a bushfire at any time of year, including outside of the Fire Danger Season, is a serious offence.
SAPOL has also produced bushfire prevention fact sheets. You can view and print these resources on the SAPOL website.
You too can help SAPOL and other emergency services to prevent bushfires throughout the year. If you undertake any activity which may be a fire risk, please consider the weather conditions and check the restrictions during fire danger season around that activity beforehand by visiting the CFS website.
It is also important that you continue to report suspicious, reckless or negligent behaviour by calling SAPOL on 131 444. If you see a fire or there is an imminent risk of a fire, call Triple Zero (000). If you have any information about someone deliberately lighting fires call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report online. You can remain anonymous.
