Safety skills wrapped in school holiday fun

School holiday fun can also come with important safety messages and life skills as kids are finding out at SAPOL’s Road Safety Centre.

Today’s weather (9 January) was perfect for the first group of children taking part in the free January road safety school holiday program.

Our fun and informative school holiday program aims to provide an additional opportunity for children to gain vital road safety education - traditionally only offered as part of school excursions.

Ten sessions covering two age groups (5 to 8 and 9 to 12) have been offered for children these school holidays. The sessions for younger kids are already booked out but there are still spots available for children aged 9 to 12 years on:

  • Thursday 10 January
  • Wednesday 16 January
  • Tuesday 22 January
  • Thursday 24 January.

Twenty eight participants took part in the two-hour program today, which consists of a classroom session, followed by a ride on the mock roadway.  Police dog ‘Jeff’ even made an appearance!

If you are looking for something for your kids to do these holidays, you can make a booking by contacting the Road Safety Section via email at mailto:SAPOL.RoadSafetySection@police.sa.gov.au Please include the following details in the email:

  • preferred date
  • name and age of participant
  • parent / guardian name / phone number / postal address /email
  • participant’s medical issues
  • participant’s riding ability.

A member of the Road Safety Section will then confirm your request.

Don’t forget, the mock roadway is available for public use throughout the school holidays – when not in use by SAPOL.
