Road Safety

Road Safety School

The South Australia Police Road Safety School is on the northern side of Port Road, next to Thebarton Police Barracks. It provides a service to the public for the training of children and other interested parties on the basics of road safety and road law.

The training program develops road safety awareness and knowledge, skills and attitudes to walking and riding bicycles and tricycles on roads.

The program is aimed at children in reception to year 7.

Duration: about 90 minutes, depending on the class size

In-school lectures & displays

The South Australia Police Traffic and Training Section presents road safety education sessions and displays to schools to make students aware of road risk management and road law.

School Monitor Training

Under the Road Traffic Act, school crossing monitors must be trained and authorised. This program trains students to a competent level to enable them to operate a fully functional school crossing.

The program is for school students of 10 years of age and over.

Bicycle Education

This is an interactive program which discusses Australian Road Rules, safety and the appropriate use of cycles, skateboards, scooters and roller skates.

The program is aimed at primary school students.

Road Safety Education                      

This program offers a road safety talk specifically targeted to suit individual requests. The police will cover any aspect of road safety appropriate for primary aged children.

The program is aimed at reception to year 7 primary school students

Pre-driver Awareness Education (Learners)

An interactive program that discusses the methods of obtaining a driver's licence, the conditions relating to Learner and Provisional licences and the risks associated with driving. The program includes discussion on crash risk, speed, alcohol and drugs, fatigue and driver attitudes to road safety.

The program is aimed at Year 10 students, pre driver's licence

Youth Driver Education Program

An interactive program that discusses road safety issues including road crashes, causes, fatigue, alcohol and drugs, speed, risk taking, peer pressure, driver attitudes and ways in which to reduce the risk of becoming a crash statistic.

The program is aimed at year 11 and 12 secondary students

International Students Driver Education Program

This program provides an introduction to Australian road rules which students from overseas need to understand prior to obtaining a licence, including International Permits.

The program is for students from overseas who want to drive in South Australia
