Aboriginal and Multicultural Unit

South Australia has a community of differing peoples, cultures, traditions, beliefs and religions, and South Australia Police recognises the valuable contribution and benefits made by all these people to our diverse society.

The South Australia Police Aboriginal and Multicultural Unit develops policies and provides services to support policing which meets the expectations and needs of a diverse, open and cohesive South Australian community.

Victim reporting guide

As part of the South Australia Police (SAPOL) commitment to delivering responsive police services, a guide titled Victim Reporting Guide to assist Non-English Speaking and Deaf People (PDF 1.1MB) is available to assist people with language difficulties or deafness to make an initial report of crime at a police station.

The Guide, distributed to every police station, contains pictographic images of the 10 most common incidents that people come into a police station to report.  It also contains a world map to assist in identifying the language required if an interpreter is also needed.

A guide to the role of Police

The booklet, A Guide to the Role of Police in Australia, will give you more information about some of the legal and police processes. It is available in eight different languages and can be downloaded from the Australasian Police Multicultural Advisory Bureau.

Restraining order information

An information brochure about restraining orders is available in 19 different languages which can be downloaded from our Restraining Orders page.
