Pre-entry requirements

You will need to meet the following requirements before being considered for recruitment to the South Australia Police.

Ethnicity

You must be a member of, known to and respected by the community you will be serving.

Personal qualities

You must be of excellent character and have the confidence of the local community. You need a sound knowledge and understanding of the cultures and societies within your community and a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with these people.

If you have a previous criminal history or serious traffic offences you should discuss these matters with the Recruiting Section before you apply.

Driver's licence         

You must hold an unrestricted or probationary class 'car' driver's licence. Experience in driving both manual and automatic vehicles is essential.

Health and fitness

You must be medically fit and will have to undertake a medical examination. You must have a minimum of 6/9 vision in each eye, either with or without visual aids.

Education

You must have the necessary life skills and a sound work history or be educated to Year 12 or equivalent. You might also be considered if you can demonstrate or produce evidence of an ability to cope with the academic aspects of training and subsequent demands of Community Constable duties. This will include studies and/or other qualifications plus a satisfactory work record.

Computing skills        

It would be useful to have basic computing skills to produce various documents, but this is not essential.
