The Hills Fleurieu Local Service Area (HFLSA) encompasses the Adelaide Hills, Fleurieu Peninsula and Kangaroo Island and comprises of 2 major patrol bases - located at Mount Barker and Victor Harbor, as well as the 7 out stations of Gumeracha, Woodside, Stirling, Strathalbyn, Goolwa, Normanville and Kingscote (Kangaroo Island).
The headquarters for Hills Fleurieu LSA is located at the Mount Barker Police Station, 64 Gawler Street, Mount Barker. Services provided from this station include Response Patrols, Criminal Investigation Branch, Highway Patrol, Criminal Justice, Crime Scene, Crime Prevention, Planning, Intelligence and Administration.
Hills Fleurieu LSA has a critical role in supporting the State's emergency management plans, and works closely with other government and non-government agencies who are involved in emergency management. The Hills Fleurieu Zone Emergency Management Committee supports the State Emergency Management Plan, and the Zone Emergency Centre is facilitated at the Mount Barker Police Station, with the ability to relocate to the Victor Harbor Police Station. Hills Fleurieu LSA also provides representation on both the Fleurieu and Kangaroo Island Bushfire Management Committees.
The Mount Barker and Victor Harbor regions within Hills Fleurieu LSA have been recognised as two of the fastest growing areas in the State. The LSA contains a number of significant industries, which include wine production, mining, fishing and tourism.
The Adelaide Hills and Fleurieu Peninsula regions host some of South Australia's significant and popular tourist destinations. Tourism SA research has shown that the Fleurieu Peninsula attracts more tourists than any other destination in South Australia. Kangaroo Island is one of Australia's premier tourist destinations and attracts more than 150,000 state, interstate and international tourists annually.
The LSA incorporates two South Australian Government Regions being Adelaide Hills/Fleurieu Region and Kangaroo Island Region, also referred to as Greater Adelaide Regions. Local government areas within its boundaries include Adelaide Hills, Mount Barker, Alexandrina, Victor Harbor, Kangaroo Island and Yankalilla. The LSA covers an area of 8,742 square kilometres, and members provide a customer focused service approach to more than 103,000 residents.
