SAPOL continuously develops its capacity to respond to challenges and aspires to provide the best policing services to meet the changing needs and expectations of South Australians. This is a matter of great pride and we are committed to ensuring this momentum is maintained.

Our mission & core functions - what we do

Our mission is: Working together to reassure and protect the community from crime and disorder.

To achieve the organisation's vision and mission, SAPOL has six core functions prescribed in the Police Act 1998. They are to:

  • uphold the law
  • preserve the peace
  • prevent crime
  • assist the public in emergency situations
  • coordinate and manage responses to emergencies
  • regulate road use and prevent vehicle collisions.
